What other duties does an appointee have?
An appointee must inform the DWP if there is any change in a person’s circumstances that may effect their benefits and also change of address or change of bank account. The amount of benefits an individual can claim is affected by the amount of savings they have.
The appointee will check the balance of savings for their client every month and inform the DWP, by letter, when the total amount of savings reaches the levels that may affect a benefit claim.
If a person has a mental impairment an appointee may consent to the release of medical information under normal consent rules. Appointees may sign on behalf of the claimant, who is a non-tax payer, for bank and building society interest to be paid without deduction of income tax.
An appointee does not have the authority to deal with capital or other income belonging to the incapacitated person.
