Wirral Council Confesses To Overcharging Vulnerable Adults
Wirral Council has agreed to repay more than £240,000 to vulnerable adults overcharged for their accomodation. At least 16 elderly and vulnerable people in supported living housing were overcharged for their accomodation for seven years.
The scandal only came to light after a former Council employee blew the whistle on the practice. This whistleblower, Martin Moreton, claims his concerns were ignored and he was bullied, eventually being offered £45,000 to leave his job and remain silent. Mr Morton's claims have since been backed up by a six-month independent investigation and Wirral Council has now issued a public apology.
